EYFS: Developing language and literacy through role play in the early years

This interactive online session aims to share a range of practical ideas that can be used back in the classroom. There will be opportunities for practitioners to discuss and develop ideas throughout the course.

The session will focus on continuous and enhanced role-play provision with consideration to:

  • Exploring the principles of creative role play, looking at how an enabling environment which offers choice, accessibility and autonomy can support language development

  • Investigate how practitioners can enhance their role play provision, motivating children to use language and literacy within their play

  • Consider ways in which the adult can facilitate and develop opportunities for language and literacy

  • Devise and develop ways and approaches in which role play can support children’s language development
