Building Firm Mathematical Foundations in Number in the Early Years and Key Stage 1

This ‘hands-on’ workshop will provide ideas that can be used to advance children’s early maths learning linked with developing number sense.

Specific ideas will be provided linked to learning around cardinality and counting, comparison and composition. Suggested pedagogies that can be used when presenting these ideas will be kept phase-appropriate.

The aim of the session will be:

  • To determine approaches that will allow children to become secure and then deepen their maths learning linked to number over time – through use of both direct teaching and continuous provision.

This session is suitable for Maths subject-leaders, Early Career Teachers, Teachers and Teaching Assistants who are working within the Early Years and Key Stage 1 landscape.
